30,000 Maravedis 2022.
Thirty thousand maravedís is the price that the Castilian nobleman Don Álvaro de Luna paid to purchase the Lordship of San Martín de Valdeiglesias from the friars of the Santa María convent. This sum gives its name to the village wine of Marañones and is an excellent example of the character of the Garnacha grape from this subzone in the foothills of the Sierra de Gredos: floral, fragrant, elegant, with nuances and depth.
Organic vineyards located in the village of San Martín de Valdeiglesias, at an altitude between 650 and 800 meters, in the foothills of the Sierra de Gredos between elevations marked by the valleys of the Alto and Bajo Alberche, the Iruelas valley and the Alto Tiétar valley.
Between 30 and 70 years old.
Granite floor with a sandy texture.
With Mediterranean temperatures and mountain rainfall, 2022 will be remembered for its extreme weather. The last months of 2021 were rainy with mild temperatures, and 2022 began in the same way. Although vine weeping began at the end of March, budbreak did not occur until the end of April due to low spring rainfall. May proved to be an atypical month due to warmer temperatures. Flowering occurred widely in mid-June, quickly and with good fruit set. The extremely hot, dry summer, with several heat waves, caused occasional periods of dormancy in the younger vines. All of this accelerated ripening in August, resulting in perfect health.
Manual harvesting in 12 kilogram boxes carried out between September 1 and 29.
The grapes arrived whole at the winery and underwent maceration with their stems. For fermentation in 3,000 to 4,500 liter wooden vats and stainless steel tanks, native yeasts were used, and 'pigeage' was also carried out.
Aged for 15 months on its own lees in French oak vats and casks of between 1,000 and 5,000 liters.
14.5th Vol.
75 cl bottle.
